Robert's Reflexions

You are cordially invited to attend the Dedication Ceremony of the Texas Historical Marker for the First United Methodist Church, Cleburne, Texas. The ceremony is set for Sunday,  August 15, 2010 at 10:50 a.m. We will begin in the sanctuary and proceed to the Outdoor Ministry Area.  A Boxed Lunch will be served following the ceremony.  (A Love Offering will be received for the box lunch.)

Outreach Ministry
This Sunday, August 8, is the last day for the School Supply Drive.  Please bring your final donations to the church by Sunday and place in the baskets next to the "Apple Tree" in the foyer.

Church-wide Fall Kick-off
Mark your calendars for September 12.  This will be the day to bring your friends for our church-wide Fall Kick-Off.  Details to follow.

We have a handful of FUMCers signed up to serve on the October Adult Mission Trip to Redbird Missionary Conference in KY. Let us begin praying for this team!

We still have some CHURCH-WIDE First UMC T-shirts available for purchase. Check with the church office if you would like one.  ($10/each)

Upcoming Events at Resurrection UMC:

Camp Upward this Week: August 2-6, 2010, 5 pm to 8 pm
Please continue to lift this ministry in prayer as we are underway this week.  Please pray that lives will be touched and that they will see the love of Jesus in those who are volunteering this week.  May God bless you who are involved with this ministry.

Also...
We will be accepting kid's socks and gently used or new kids' athletic shoes (all sizes) throughout the summer for the UPWARD CAMPers who need a good pair of shoes the week of the Camp. Look for a box in the Narthex to drop off your donations. Thanks!

MIDWEEK Program for Kids at RUMC
During July, we shared God's love with more than 20 children and adults who do not have a church home and even some who have never been to church.  What a blessing it has been for the children, adults, and volunteers! Many thanks to all those who have donated their time, talent, and gifts to this very important program.

Adult Ministry
Fall Bible Studies:

"Disciple 1 - Becoming Disciples through Bible Study"
34-week study of the Bible - Genesis through Revelations
Open to all adults
$32.00 per participant
Times and Dates:
Sept. 9, 2010 - May 26, 2011
6:30 - 8:30 PM
Facilitator: Alan George

Disciple 1 Bible study will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:00 pm. beginning September 9th.  The last session will be held on May 26th.  The following dates will be skipped due to the school schedule for '10-'11 school year: Nov. 25, Dec. 23 and 30, March 17.  This is how we will schedule the study until the group meets and makes decisions based upon their needs.

Men's Ministry

Serving Christ by Serving You
Free service for those in need - mowing, edging, tree trimming, cleaning, oil change, painting, etc. If you are interested in serving in this ministry, are in need of assistance, or know someone in need, please call the church office at 817-645-6392 or Brett Edmiston 817-319-1301.

United Methodist Men
UMM meets at 7:45 am for breakfast fellowship ($4.00 donation) on the second Saturday of each month.  Each breakfast has a short devotional/inspirational message.  It is also a time for planning fund raisers for various ministries.  Some upcoming UMM projects may include a "Laity Day" hamburger lunch to raise money for Resurrection UMC and a day of baking cookies for the Kairos Prison Ministry.  All the men of the church and their sons are welcome.

Senior Adult Ministry

Monthly Fellowship
The senior adults meet
every THIRD Thursday in the Youth Center for Games and a Covered-dish Lunch.  Games and fun begins at 10:00; Lunch is served around 11:30.  Come be part of the fun and fellowship - And of course, the delicious food!!

This month is our Annual Senior Adult LUAU!  Mark your calendar for Thursday, August 19 at 11:30 a.m. and get your Hawaiian shirts and muu-muus ready!  We need your registration and $5 turned in by Sunday, August 15 to Helen Herron or Colleen Rorick.  Don't miss this exciting annual event!  Aloha!

The September 11th Jennifer Strickland event, "Men, Mirrors, and Magazines", has been postponed due to a schedule conflict with the Cleburne Business and Outdoor Expo.  This event will be rescheduled for a future date.

Student Ministry
Robbie Seay Band - August 29
is coming to Cleburne on August 29th @ the new Cleburne Conference Center @ 6pm.  Help us sell tickets- $10/each. If you sell 10 tickets, you get in free!  The student who sells the most tickets by the "Back to school Fusion" on August 25 will win an iPod Nano or a $100 gift certificate to somewhere of their choice!  (Tickets will be $12 at the door.)

Children's Ministry

Back to School Supplies Project ENDS August 8th

Our annual Back to School Supplies Outreach Mission Project  is coming to a close this coming Sunday,   Many more basic school supply items are needed to fill our baskets and boxes  Some of the items needed are:  Notebook paper, pencils, pens, map colors, erasers, notebooks, folders, 3 ring binders, backpacks, markers,highlighters, rulers, scissors, calculators, construction paper.

Our school supplies, along with many other Johnson County agencies, will be  distributed through the newly formed Johnson County Apples Program on Saturday,  August 14 at Wheat Middle School.    Those in need of supplies for their children must have made applications through Operation Blessing of Johnson County or Salvation Army.

WE ARE IN NEED OF FUMC VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH THE DISTRIBUTION OF SUPPLIES ON  SATURDAY, AUGUST14.   IF YOU CAN HELP FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS ARE ALL DAY,PLEASE LET ALAN KNOW BY TUESDAY, AUGUST 10.

Beginning August 8th thru the 29th, children can prepare each Sunday for this school year by studying about the strength provided by "The Armor of God".

Music Ministry

The Music and Worship Arts Ministries of FUMC, Cleburne,invites you to become a part of this exciting ministry. The Traditional/Blended Music Ministries focus on Christ-centered music, fellowship, friendship and most importantly the sharing of the gospel of Christ through music in worship and special musical events. It is our hope that everyone who participates in the music ministries program is challenged to grow in Christ and to experience God's unconditional love through the love of music that we all share.

Bells of Praise
Rehearsals begin tonight, August 4th at 6:30pm in the music room. We have some NEW and exciting music to enhance our Sunday morning worship. Anyone interested, please come.

August 18th is the Handbell Retreat in the music room 6:30-8:30. Food will be provided at 6pm for the ringers. Choir rehearsal will be canceled due to the Handbell Retreat.

Sanctuary Choir
Rehearsals begin tonight - August 4th
- in the Sanctuary at 7:30 p.m.

We have all levels of singers, from professionals on the stage to professionals in the shower! We have a place for you. 

August 21st will be our First Annual Choir Retreat here at the church.Singing, fun, and FOOD! Current members and prospective members are invited! It will be from 9-2pm.  R.S.V.P to Thomas at thomas@fumccleburne.com or call the office 645-6392 ext. 111.
